(Though that's eventually what happened.)Īnyway, I decided to try writing some shorter (i.e. After that, I decided that I was writing things that were too big-that no publisher was going to take a huge epic fantasy book from an unknown author. The three after ELANTRIS were big epic fantasy books, much like it in style. However, while I was trying to get ELANTRIS published, I wrote a number of other books. Book six was ELANTRIS, which was published in May of 2005 it was the first book I managed to sell.

My first five books are what I call the "throwaway books." Those were ones I did mostly as practice, figuring out how to do the whole novel-writing thing. As some of you may know, I spent a number of years trying to get published, writing books all the while. There's an interesting story behind this title. The second book is MISTBORN: THE WELL OF ASCENSION, and the third book is MISTBORN: THE HERO OF AGES.

I'm generally just going to call this book MISTBORN, though the entire series is the "Mistborn Trilogy." Technically, this book is MISTBORN: THE FINAL EMPIRE. You can reveal any of this text (if there is any) by pressing the button on the top left portion of the screen.Īll right, first annotation! About the title page. Anything that might be revealing of what is going to happen after the chapter of the indicated annotation is hidden. However, they WILL NOT spoil future chapters. Beware! I don't do a lot of proofreading on these, so they're bound to have some typos.Īnyway, enjoy! Remember, these WILL spoil the book for you if you haven't read it. Check back once or twice a week, and you should find a new annotation that you can peruse. I post about two of these a week, usually on Monday and Friday, though that isn't exactly set. I more intend these to be used during subsequent reads of the book, however-a way to give you a little bit more value for the money. So, if you want to pause after each chapter and read what I thought on that chapter, you're welcome.

They're designed so that any spoilers of future chapters are hidden. These are all posted for free, intended as a kind of companion to the text of the book. It try to talk about where the ideas came from, what my reaction is to the chapters after the fact, and what I was trying to do with some of the themes. When I do the copy edit for one of my books-a process I find rather boring-I pause after each chapter and write out my thoughts, ideas, and impressions of that chapter. In case you're not aware, this is how the process works. If you haven't read the book, it's out in paperback now, so hurray! I hope that everyone enjoyed the Annotations for ELANTRIS. The steward later accompanied Shan to another ball at Keep Lekal. So, here we are, the annotations for my second book, MISTBORN. Vin learned that some of the books discussed rebellion against the Lord Ruler, and that Shan likely sent the steward to investigate because she had suspicions about Elend's political leanings. The steward saw her coming and smoothly moved on from the table as if nothing had happened. Valette awkwardly excused herself from Shan's table to go interrupt him. When he returned, Valette noticed that he surreptitiously walked to the table where she had been sitting, looking at some books that Elend had left there. As Shan met and demeaned Valette, her steward took her dessert plate to the kitchen to be washed. After Elend was seen talking to Valette, the steward was sent to her table with a request (or rather, a demand) from Shan to join her. Shan's steward was present at the ball at Keep Elariel when Vin first used her "Valette Renoux" persona and met Elend Venture. Vin notes that he does not have the same "spirit" as Sazed, and that he always maintains a flat expression. Like all stewards in the Final Empire, he is a eunuch. He wears a great deal of jewelry, although there is no indication that he is a Feruchemist. Shan's steward wears a tinningdar, presumably in the colors of House Elariel. Shan Elariel employs a Terrisman steward at Keep Elariel in Luthadel during the Final Empire on Scadrial. This article's title is uncanonical and a fan created one, because an official term or name has not been made yet.
